During our Yoga Day Retreat which I organized with Julia Engelbrecht, I discussed the benefit of chlorella (a type of fresh water algae) on the immune system. I came up with this smoothie which combines the sweet and refreshing taste of raspberries with the more earthy and oceanic flavour of chlorella giving it a unique taste. It is a satiating smoothie with adequate amounts of healthy fats, good quality proteins and of course chocolate.
2 cups of raspberries fresh or frozen
2 cups of coconut milk
1 tbsp. of nut butter
1 tbsp. of raw cacao
1 tsp. of chlorellapowder
1 tsp. of cinnamon
2 tbsp. of chia seeds
Optional: 1 tbsp. of vanilla protein powder (plant-based or whey)
coconut flakes unsweetened and cacao nibs
If you are using frozen raspberries, let defrost night before. Combine all ingredients together and blend on high. Sprinkle with coconut flakes and cacao nibs for an extra crunchy texture.
